Nvidia Driver 387.26
While it might help with the weird stuff they have in their postinst script, installing a newer driver isn't really feasable fix for the kernel module problem because the new drivers induce instability (flickering, delays) in gstreamer (with nvenc) based applications which i rely on.. When i use the driver download page it points me to the nvidia-linux-x86_64-367.57 version of the drivers which seem to work (they install the expected modules and nvidia-smi doesn't error) however when i go to install the current download of cuda (cuda_9.1.85_387.26_linux) it installs a newer version of the driver (387.26) which doesn't seem. Bad return status for module build on kernel: 4.13.0-26-generic (x86_64) during my searches i found lot of issues pointing to a wrong gcc version but after several attempts i wasn't able to find a way to go: following this discussion i tried with gcc 4.8/4-9/5.4/6 without any luck..
